“Italy as seen by great masters of photography” – AT LANDMARK ROTUNDA – 14.12/31.01.2023
From 14 December to 31 January, Baku will host the exhibition ‘Italiae. Dagli Alinari ai maestri della fotografia contemporanea’, created on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Fondazione Alinari Fotografia, and organised in Azerbaijan by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the Landmark Complex. On display at the Rotunda will be an archive of 75 photographers who have portrayed Italy, each in their own way, and have told the story of the charm and diversity of the “Bel Paese”, its nature, its creativity and its people through images taken with different techniques and artistic languages.
The exhibition, curated by Rita Scartoni and Luca Criscenti, is divided into three sections (Landscapes, Works and Faces), each of which can be seen as a historical, artistic and documentary journey through the modes and genres of photography: more than 160 years of history in one exhibition space, in a composite anthology of shots from atelier photos to the most up-to-date experiments, to build an ideal gallery of landscapes, memories and portraits seen from unusual perspectives and to bear witness to the richness of a country in continuous evolution and at the same time to the extraordinary vitality of Italian photography.
